Heute mal auf Englisch, weil ich mit meinem Kleid bei einem Wettbewerb mitmache, der Project Runway nachempfunden ist.
I loved Project Runway and I loved Project Run & Play as well as Project Sewn.
It's always nice to see the creativity, learn new techniques and generally be inspired.
Thus far I've come away with at least a hand full of pinterest pins to be used in good time :)
This week's challenge was to create a signature look. There's always someone to admire for their styling and taste. I was inspired by Zooey Deschanel most prominently known for her current role in New Girl.
It's no secret that I like vintage clothing, most eloquently put by my boyfriend as "granny clothes". Yeah. I like that.
Currently I also really like those kind of dresses that would look cute on toddlers, with the skirt starting just oh so slightly above the natural waist.
For this dress (originally created to attend a wedding) I wanted to combine a twirly circle skirt that also had box pleats (2 in the front and 2 in the back). I wanted cap sleeves in a contrasting colour, and some sort of key hole neckline, that could be pressed to resemble a pointy collar if I decided to change it up.
To make it slightly more edgy I gave it an exposed metal zipper in the back.
The blue fabric is a cotton-satin mix and the sleeves and belt are made of a silver-golden jersey knit.
I think the dress is definitely reminiscent of Zooey Deschanel's signature style. Feminine, chic, a little bit of the 50s and just cute... I want to emphasize that I was merely going for something she would wear and not trying to duplicate one of her dresses.

I used a Burda pattern that was in the august edition of 2012 numbered 133 but I altered it quite a bit.
I made a circle skirt (plus box pleats), I changed the top to have just half a princess seam up the front, I moved the zipper from the side to the back and gave it a different neckline. I also made a little petticoat to go underneath. I drafted the belt myself.
I like it quite a lot and will wear it again pretty soon :)
Comments are always appreciated :)
